This is the upslope portion a basin floor fan (Beaubouef et al, 1999). It passes downslope into the toe the slope, that basinward is followed by the proximal fan, the mid fan and the distal fan. The mid slope channels are a part of the lower or basinward portion of the lowstand systems tract characterized by channels feeding the deposition of submarine fans on the lower slope or basin floor. Channel formation is associated with the erosion of canyons into the slope and the incision of fluvial valleys into the shelf. Siliciclastic sediment bypasses the shelf and slope through these valleys, canyonsor channels to feed the basin-floor fan.
