Diagenetic history |
Cemented by large equant meniscus spar. |
Note concentric aragonite forming the ooid layers. Darkened spots within ooid layers and pelloid nuleae are cyanobacteria colonies that cause local micritization and local dissolution. These ooids accumulated adjacent to the high energy setting of the ebb delta just south and east of Joulters Cay. Wave energy carried the ooids to shore and then wind transported them to the center of Joulters Cay to form linear aeolian dunes parrallel to the shore. Rainfall provided fresh water which invaded the dunes dissolving the some the aragonite. Meniscus cements hardened the dune surfaces and are a freshwater calcite cement derived from the dissolution of the original aragonite ooids.
