Diagenetic history |
Micritization within algal head |
A fragment of an algal stromatolite head enclosed by onlapping sediment composed of a combination Renalcis grains, pelecypod, brachiopod, & cephlapod fragments, that all fill the grooves between the heads. This sample of Devonian Fammenian carbonate was collected from the surface of a large algal mound 15 to 30 meters across, that formed in subtidal waters of the northern margin of the Canning Basin of Western Australia. Phil Playford named these carbonate mounds in the Canning Basin, Western Australia, the No 2 Elimberrie Bioherms.
