Note the vertical tubes (filled with the darker sediment) penetrating the anhydrite nodules and layers. These tubes have smooth curvillinar walls that appear to have been produced by small insects. Musafah Field Trip

Photographic images of ADIPEC conference Field Trip 1 to Musafah on the south shore of the lagoons just SW of Abu Dhbai, lead by Christian Strohmenger.  Images record profiles through supratidal evaporite and intertidal cyanobacterial mats.  Papers from meeting published in 2011: "QuaternaryCarbonate and evaporite sedimentary facies and their ancient analogues: A Tribute to Douglas James Shearman" - Special Publication 43 of the International Association of Sedimentologists Series edited by Christopher G. St C. Kendall and Abdulrahman Alsharhan.
